    This thread reminds me of those who attempt to proselytize on behalf of
their own religious beliefs. Why can't people just feel secure in their own
beliefs be they spiritual or musical, and respect others who take different
paths? There might be a lot less wars, and a lot less sophomoric threads on
harp-l.

Motown musicians valued substance over flash. They were more concern
with the groove and the melody than soloing. Stevie's harp playing was
exactly what the song needed and nothing else. When you think of his
accomplishments (he invented the funk clavinet sound) the songs he
wrote, the instruments he could play, the power of his voice, it's
hard to see any validity in complaints that he wasn't as good a harp
player as Sonny Boy.
