Re: [Harp-L] 2 Most Amazing Harmonica Shows

Naw, it was in the 90's, probably 1997 or 98. I know this because Steve Guyger showed up for the legendary SPAH '98 hang and Blues Show, joining the fun w/Kim Wilson, Jerry Portnoy, et al. I knew Steve at this point and worked out his addition to the show, so the first time I saw him had to have been before this particular SPAH.

I also stopped going to Buckeye (and SPAH, except to check out the Dallas Convention) at the 'turning of the guard', which happened in 2001.

Guyger at Buckeye was 2001 or 2002, but either way it was a very good show. He and Yescalis stuck around for the whole three days as I remember.
I had never heard anyone get so "deep' into harp, making the reeds really sing.

The guitar player was Rich Yescalis. I don't know if Last Train To Dover is still available but he plays on that one with Steve Guyger. I think the year was actually Buckeye 2001. It really was a great show, Steve's version of John Henry on a chromatic was amazing. Steve is also one of the most kind and generous people you'll ever meet. Not at all who you'd expect at first glance. fjm
