[Harp-L] Re: Busking

Hi Mark, you and Jon looked really relaxed in those pictures. Looked like a nice day playing outdoors and even getting a few bucks for your trouble. Doesn't get much better than that does it?

Busking is something I've been thinking about for a while now. I play in a duo with a guitar player and we usually do small gigs at Coffee Shops and the like. I've been thinking about taking our act outside. I'm reluctant though because I've never done it and have no idea where to start. Any advice from veteran buskers and street performers would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of location works best? Where can you play to get good traffic but not be in the way of a business?

Typically, what are the laws regarding this kind of playing? And how do you find out the local ordinances? Check with the local city hall?

What about using portable battery powered amps to get the volume up a bit? I have a Crate taxi and pignose Hog-20 I'd like to use. My guitar player plays loud but sings soft - he would sound much better with some amplification to balance his sound out.

Thanks for the help. Jim McBride
