[Harp-L] rap and harmonica

Last year I was called to the studio for a rap/hip hop song. They really wanted bluesy stuff, but liked overblow chromatic runs. They had me play certain licks repeatedly as parts as opposed to just riffing. The song included a Peter Gabriel vocal part. According to the producer, this was the band's big song. They were being talked to by Sony and this was being lined up as the hit. I must admit, it was one of the best produced, most exciting songs I have ever recorded. I never received a copy and when I called the producer a couple of months down the road the number was not in service. It is possible that I am on a number 1 hit, but I doubt it.

I play regularly with MCO and the Flong All Stars. In my opinion it is a funk rock band. Two bass players, lead and rhythm guitar, drums, sax, harp and vocals. It is called the All Stars because all the back up musicians play with other recognizable names in Austin. It is called Flong because the leader is crazy and came up with a name I would not use in a million years. The lead singer does some actual melodic singing, but mostly raps. Would he consider himself a rapper? I don't know. At nearly every show at least two guys dressed like gangsta rappers will sit it and rock the mic pretty hard. So I guess I play harp to rap music.
