[Harp-L] Re: Microphone Recommendations

The choices are myriad!. I like Turner and EV 605 shells aesthetically and for the size (smaller relative to green bullet).
The element is, naturally, the heart of the mic. Older Shure CM elements (circa 60's) are available for 50 bucks plus or minus and can be a safe bet.
They are rugged and work well with many amps.
If you are starting with one mic, then the amp (or PA) you will play through will effect a sound decision.
Some music stores would be agreeable to let a customer bring a amp in and test their mics.
The Audix Fireball is around a hundred and has gotten good review for a low-impedance mic and is available.
Some custom builders have offered decent mics for a hundred that have older Shure CM cartridges and sell online.
The new green bullets can sound decent, If you like to cup the mic for compression.
If you like to play clean or with crunch, want a volume control, etc are other considerations.
If you post more about what you like, what type of direction you are drawn to, then so many on this list could offer their insight and opinion.

I have only begun playing amplified harp. Its been so long, I don't
know what's out there. I remember the Shure "Green Microphone". Does
anyone have any recommendations for a start. Can you purchase a decent
 microphone for $100.?
Thanks for all your suggestions.
James
