Re: [Harp-L] Zoom H4 - Any sound files?

The Zoom H4 does exceedingly well at recording sources at a distance of 15 to 30 feet. The two built-in mics are so sensitve you must be careful to not set the gain too high. The H4 yields a good stereo image. Here is a sample of a live gig recording made with the H4:

This is a quiet intro to a song played by my son's jazz big band at a gig in Denver. The H4 recorder was near the back of the room, at least 30 feet from the stage. It is placed on a beam about 7 feet above the floor, in the center of room near the back. You can hear the people in the audience. Listen on your headphones to get the full spatial effect.

Subject: [Harp-L] Zoom H4 - Any sound files?

Hi,

I'd like to ask those who own Zoom H4 to comment on whether it picks up the sound well from the distance of some 15 feet, and what about 30 feet? I often attend purely acoustic conserts with my daughter - mostly piano/violine/vocal/strings set up. Just wondering if I'd be successful in recording a relatively - comparing to a regular tape recorder with the mic - decent files.

Can someone share his/her MP3 sound samples - from tracks recorded with Zoom H4?

Best,

Alex
