I'd like to ask those who own Zoom H4 to comment on whether it picks up the sound well from the distance of some 15 feet, and what about 30 feet?

Can someone share his/her MP3 sound samples - from tracks recorded with Zoom H4?
Yes, it does well out to 30 feet (depends an volume of the source of course). I recorded the whole weekend of Jon Gindick's Dallas Harmonica Jam Camp that I attended a couple of weekends ago (about ~22 hrs, including the General Sessions, the classes that I attended, and thee one-on-ones I attended). I had just bought the unit a few days before, and the Jam Camp was my first use of it, other than some time with it here at home just to familiarize myself with its use, menus, etc. The general sessions were in a ~medium size ballroom, maybe ~60 long and a lot of what was going on was 15-30 feet from me much of the time. The guitarist (Hash Brown), vocal mic, and HarpGear amps (Brian was there) were probably about 20-25 feet from me. I am impressed.

The first thing I did was remove the 128MB SD and put in a 2GB. Using MP3 format and VBR (variable bit rate) the 2GB card will hold about ~35hrs of audio. WAV will consume about 10 times as much. I used 2600 mah NiMH batteries, and they lasted about four hours. I had a couple of spare sets of batteries with me and a charger in the hotel room.

I did experience one hiccup. At one time while it was recording I was fooling with it, pressing some buttons, and it locked up - wouldn't even turn off. I had to remove the batteries and power back on. I lost that recording. Fortunately (I think), I only lost about 15 minutes.

Firmware 1.2 is available on Zoom's web site. It fixes bugs in 1.0 and 1.1 and adds a feature. It was very easy to install

I can provide a sound file.
