Not touching (as I promised)any more on the subject of theory vs natural genius, I don't quite agree with Pierre. This is a widely spread conception that you can "graduate" from blues or rock into more sophisticated genres such as jazz or classical music.

I've listened to blues and played some for 37 years and haven't found it boring. I listen to many other genres and like a lot of it. In jazz there is a lot of interesting stuff but some really boring too. The biggest drawback in jazz, IMO, is the minimal presence of vocals, the sweetest and most creative instrument in music.
