Don´t reinvent the wheel, the answer is beeswax ;)

However oil, wax or vaseline won´t help closing tolerances between 
reed and plate as water will due to capillary action. If you soak 
plasic Harps you will also experience a significant increase in 
response ant thighness, however this will be gone after only a few 
seconds of playing.
