[Harp-L] Plagiarism

The title to this topic has been spelled in at least twelve ways but anyway, just adding another comment. A live blues performance and academica are not comparable. When doing a Doctor's degree, it is clear that your writing should be original and outside sources should be mentioned. A blues concert is not a final exam where you have to prove that the note sequence was invented by yourself. I give credit to Glenn and anyone else who, in a live concert can identify Little Walter or Sonny Boy solos note for note. But who gained "unearned" benefit even if that was the case. What would be condemnable would be, if the player claimed he was improvising. I would lean towards the Buddhist approach that 98 % of the audience had a good time without worrying if the solos were improvised or copied. And in the end, the performer didn't get payed extra for "stealing" nor did the audience have to pay any more for listening to it vs improvised solos.
