Subject: [Harp-L] Pat Ramsey

Hi James:

Of course that's a very old video...Pat doesn't dress remotely close to that
way anymore...did away with the hair completely (and looks far better for
it, in my opinion)....dresses mostly in t-shirts tucked into jeans or
slacks...or
guayabera style shirts over slacks...lost weight since this video so he
always looks neat and trim ....he played at SPAH in 2005..then shared a stage
with Jason, MadCat, Dennis Gruenling and Joe Filisko, in one of those incredible
sit down facing the audience question/answer sessions one seems only to be
able to experience at a SPAH...where they're playing, riffing off each
other...everything spontaneous...each talking about how he came up, got to this
point in his career.

Pure magic...especially when Pat would nod when Jason blew a riff
...exclaiming "he stole that from me!"...then ruefully laughing, adding "but he made it
better!" after listening closely to Jason's interpretation. Jason beaming
with pride and paying absolute homage to the man he considers his "father".
Pat was electric, Jason's playing spurring him on to further heights..Gruenling
and Filisko as always amazing and perfect..and then MadCat topping everyone
effortlessly, with the rest breaking into spontaneous applause.

That single free-form "seminar" was worth the entire price of admission to
KC SPAH (at least for me). Whoever came up with the idea deserves a big pat on
the back (no pun intended) ;). MY draw was, of course...Jason and MadCat
(had already heard his playing at the previous Buckeye). But I came away with
it as a Pat Ramsey fan...and even more impressed with Joe Filisko and Dennis
Gruenling. The rest of SPAH was gravy....yet we even got to hear Pat AND all
the rest of these wonderful performers sitting in...taking their turns at the
Late Night Blues Jams circle with not a hint of ego on display...just
brilliant.

where one of the four tracks you can choose to hear is "Build me a Woman".
Another is my favourite by him: "Broken Hearted". Enjoy!

Wow, I guess I have been under a rock for a while. This is the man who
inspired Jason Ricci. Great playing and where did he get that suit. I nominate Pat
Ramsey as the best dressed harp player."
