every song has a "sound" and flavor to it. every position has sound and flavor to it.

When you listen to enough music that ISN"T harmonica oriented then you will hear what I am talking about. Then the next thing is to know what the different positions sound like.
 
try this...

pick up any harmonica and play happy birthday but start the song on blow 4. Let your ear guide you.  
then play the flintstone but start on draw 5 and let your ear guide you.

Don't think about position...just play the song.
