Tom: I know you said you're experienced with gapping. My only guess at this point is the gaps are too low and when you really lean into the harp the reed stalls. I think you said it happened during performance and now your telling me it's associated with Magic Dick songs. During a Magic Dick song I assume your very intense leading to the hard blowing. Try raising the gaps a little at a time. Also with very close magnification or an extremely soft touch you can detect the reed hitting the plate on one side or the other towards the rivet when plinked. You might hear some dead sound when plinked at this point. Those are my two guesses at this point. Let me know what happens.
