I seem to come back to this every year or so!  I'm still using my Yamaha VA10 battery amp.  You can use it on mains power too.  It needs six D cells but they last for ages.   It's great for street playing and I use it in the pub in Irish sessions.   It has a variable delay control that is good for taking the dryness off the sound.  It has chorus and distortion controls too which are variable.  It has treble, middle and bass controls and a volume control.   Maybe I'll get more ambitious one day but this is ultra-convenient and not too heavy either.  I always put it on to one of those fold-up guitar stands just to get it slightly off the floor and aim it slightly upwards which (I think) helps the sound a bit.
