I don't doubt that one bit. The teacher was from Texas.

Speaking slowly, in a drawl, he basically left us with an underlying
thought, as far as piano tuning was concerned:

It's a mysterious process, which one needs an electronic instrument to do
properly, due primarily to its mysteriousness.

It's not a science, but an art, and you "can't get there from here".
