           I 'had a hunch' about the overblow, back in the late 70's, never having  heard it; apart from Blues Birdheads, which I didn't connect anyhow (I just gave up on that one!)
           I just noticed that you could 'lock' a lower blow reed in the same way you could 'lock' a conventional draw bend, holding it mute so the pure bent note would emerge, bell-like, with no slur.
           I thought that maybe there was a 'hidden' note in those 'locked' blow notes, so I spent some time playing through an amp and listening to the subtle overtones produced by the locked reeds. As soon as I started to hear them, I was all but there; I agree with (was it Winslow?) in saying that you have to hear what note you are reaching for, in the same way as when you do a conventional bend.
          By the way, why do you want the extra notes?

I'm trying to teach myself overblowing using an unmodified stock Marine 
Band, key of C, starting with the 6-hole.
OK, so I'm not a harmonica newbie, but I feel like one now, because it's 
hard as hell to get the reed to pop up to the OB note. And it sounds awful 
when I do.
Speaking as a supplicant with folded hands, my question to the OB gurus is: 
what am I doing wrong? Can it really be this hard?
Can you advise, Winslow? Anyone?
