I always encouraged people to do their own harp work whenever 
possible.  No one knows what you want and need better than you do.  
That said, how many harps would you work on, if you were working on 
your own?  Five?  Twenty-five?  A customizer would do that many in a 
week.  A customizer will have specialized tools that make the job 
easier and more accurate.  A customizer would have the experience of 
years, and be able to make recommendations for tunings and intonations 
and actions based on the players stated needs and goals as well as 
examples of their playing.  

Of course, the best place to be is to be a customizer, working on your 
own harps ;-)
