In my opinion, it makes little difference WHAT material a reed is made of.  
So long as it does not corrode. Vern Smith proved to me more than 10 years  ago 
that the comb material makes no difference AT ALL to the "sound" as heard by  
the audience. Just a stable material makes a better instrument.
Why should it matter, except in longevity, weather the reed is made out of  
"Brass" "Bell Metal" "Stainless Steel" Or "Bamboo"?
I believe that mostly, the manufactures of the harmonica will probably find  
"something appropriate" to manufacture the reeds...
