I remember hearing a story about Sonny Terry and wonder if it is true, and,  
if so, if this is the musical.
 
Apparently, because it being a Broadway show, Sonny was asked to create  
music and duplicate it exactly night after night. At first, Sonny argued that,  
being a bluesman and improviser, he played in the moment and from the heart and  
could not recreate his performance night after night - that was, until he got 
a  look at the size of the check offered for the gig, and then he did a 180 
degree  turnaround on this concept.
