Joe,,I hope my post didn't cause you to feel as if you had to "esplain

Nope, not at all.

You'd been around the block ten times before I ever learned to
pedal.

Don't be silly. I'm just your average neighborhood player.

I just thought I should bring up the potential that the poster (Bill Kumpke)
may have been unfamiliar with the difference in nomenclature between "notes"
and "holes".

Yeah, I know. I thought of it both ways but had to go with my gut feeling.

As a beginner, he may not have discovered yet how to bend the lower, bigger
reeds, on the lower keys.

Yeah, sometimes they can be a real mouthful. Especially if you're trying for any speed.

His "same notes" may have been "same holes,
different notes".

Yeah, I can dig it. 'MY' tipoff was when he mentioned the #3 hole. My gut feeling lead me to 'bad gapping' because that's the one hole one 'shouldn't' have that much trouble with.

Anyway,, again, I apologize if you feel my comments "pressed you into answering".

No, not at all. Don't give it a thought. I like to get into the real nitty gritty of these things. I saw a friendly informative exchange. I have pretty much over the years followed my own mantra of working on harps only to find out that my ideas were the same as Schackner & Tate. But, I am always looking for new anglers, so I welcome the exchanges.

I wasn't trying to put you under the lights.

Ha ha ha, don't be silly. Those whom know me, kno me to be a very relaxed personage..... lol

UNLESS, the harps in question are of a different key.

Yes. But when hole #3 was mentioned, a red light went off in my red light district. See more below.

I know he states that "these notes" are not giving him a problem on
his other harps, but maybe by
"these notes", he means "these holes", on harps of a different key.

He wrote 'note', so that's what I went by..... MY bad.

If the harps that ARE working are in, say, the key of "D", or even "K",,(I have special harps in that key,,personally tuned,,), then the respective reeds in "those holes" may simply be easier to bend.

I have harps in Bb double sharp, and Hb. I never heard of one in K. As for lower G, Ab & A harps, I also have trouble bending them. But, (in my case), it would be holes 1 & 2, as opposed to 2 & 3. I can ALWAYS get 4 steps out of hole 3. But I agree. Lower tunings are harder to bend. As are the very high keys. I like to stay in the A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E range.

So,,the question is,,on the harps that he has no problem with,,are they ALSO in the keys of "A" and "G"?

He did mention 2 harps. The Big River (softer reeds) and the Blues Harp (harder reeds....I never liked), so I was using what I felt was logic. Of course, Winslow ('THE' wizard,...as usual) asked for more details. I fully concur. To give a precise analysis we would have to have a lot more info. OR have the harp available for study. As it were, I was going by what was written, and on the surface, I ascertain (through an exhaustive system of ascertainments), that these 2 harps are (what I like to call) 'donors'.

With the possibility of air leakage and/or insufficient mouth/throat technique, the "A" and "G" harps are, indeed, more difficult to bend, in the low holes.

Sure, I can dig it.

Maybe these holes also should be eliminated from the harmonica. That would make playing much simpler,,having a 2, 3, or a "no-hole" harmonica, right?
