[Harp-L] Re:Gary Smith clip

The fellow on the left is using a SJ410 on volume 2, Gary is on the right
using the Cruncher on 5, this should give you an idea. I have gotten many
requests for sound bites of Gary, this is a good one: The other damn good player
is Aki Kumar.. _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psfyGSslttw_

I am sure that I blow hole 5, it's note E the first note before
overblow... well I don't know whether it's an overblow or not, but I
the pitch is half way decrease.
I've successfully recorded it, please see at the ending (around
00:12-00:14), I think it's Eb.

Joe, Joe, Joe. It's all about the DNA pal.

If you wanted to have little Cash's, Dylan's, Lennon's of your own
there's always that DNA all throughout the harp. Don't laugh, the day is
coming when some whack job will do it.

Imagine the surprised parents when it turns out the harp wasn't owned by
one of them but some evil mutant harmonica player. Whoops, too late.

But seriously, I agree with you 100%. Same thing for the folks that pay
ridiculous amounts of money for autographs. I just don't get it.

I don't understand how a harmonica played by Cash, Dylan, Lennon,
(being used), would be worth more than 12 dollars. I mean, what are
we talking about here? We're talking about used harps. And, no one
can even prove they belonged to these people anyway. And even if they
did, so what.

hey ...wait a minute. i thought GAS stood for 'guitar acquisition
syndrome'....ergo HAS would be 'harmonica acquisition syndrome'..congas
CAS...and so on.

...now you guys have me completely befuddled by using it for melody makers

and amps! (though that last one would make an interestingly pronounced
acronym) ;)

Elizabeth

P.S. $90,000! Holy $***!! That's beyond sanity, as is even $640 for a
used
(by anyone) diatonic...let alone $12 grand.

I have a guitar looks just like that one gathering dust in my music room,
Scott. Only it doesn't say 'fender'. However, in every other detail
(shape,
colour, style), it's identical. It was given to me at the end of the 60's

by a
TV Producer I knew who realized I was a poor kid, and who had just gotten
a
brand new one for his wife's birthday. He gave me both of her old
electric
guitars. I never owned an amp nor had any clue about playing them, so
they've
sat unused all these years. Gave one away last year on Freecycle to a
mother
whose kid was taking up guitar, and still have one left. Hey, that proves

the provenance, doesn't it? Of course he was fairly old then so I'm sure
they're both long gone but at least one of their two sons was still making

commercials in New York, last I'd heard. Somehow, though... I doubt it'll
make me
rich ;)

Harmonica content: some harmonica players would rather go to that place

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. There's this thing in my
religion about not wearing someone else's hat. What you risk is
mixing their brain waves with yours. This also extends to shoes. What
you would be doing is walking in someone else's footsteps. As for
harmonicas, you're breathing someone else's breath.

Naaaah, count me out. I can't think of 3 people I would less rather
mix with than these three.

It's hero worship. I never was into that. I don't understand why
people can't be themselves. But some people like to live in an alter-
world.

Provenance is everything when buying memorabilia. Even if one is inclined to
trust the seller, the item has little value without at least a chain of
custody. So, if this is your thing, try to put excitement aside and spend no
money without some form of proof.

While I do not personally subscribe to the cult of personality, I do
understand it. Both as an offshoot of the very human need to belong and, for
some, a connection to an existence perceived to be better than their own.

Hole 4 OB would be Eb. You sure you were on Hole 5? What note did you play
just before the overblow?

Dear all,

I'd like to ask about OBs. I think I popped my first OB by using
unmodified SP20 C harmonica on hole 5. BUT, When I checked it with
bendometer, it said that I popped Eb instead of F#? Does anybody know
what's happening? I also tried on unmodified GM C Harmonica, and
still got the same thing.

Arnold

I get an annoying hum when I plug my Fireball V into my Harp Gear 2 using an
Audix T-50K Impedance Transformer. Can anyone give me an idea about what
might be causing the hum and how I can get rid of it?

I was messing around on youtube watching videos that I never saw in the 80s
because the town I grew up in was too small to get MTV. (Now that I have it
they don't play videos and the few they do . . .suck) I saw a Joe Satriani
video for a song called the Extremist. It had him playing harp on it. Then I
remembered back to his Flying in a Blue Dream album that had lots of harp on
it. I even remembered him talking in a guitar magazine about the
probability that he will never be that great at the harmonica because of TMJ syndrome.
The Extremist is not on that album so he must have played on more than one.
 Here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJu8obk4Q0I

Thanks for all the feedbacks guys. I think you guys are right, I
didn't do any overblow in that case. Eventually, I managed to overblow
hole E into Bb. I think the "straw tricks" proposed by groovygypsy is
working effectively. Nevertheless, I just noticed that I need to put
more pressure in order to stop the blow reed so that the draw reed is
able the note clearly. Perhaps, I still need some modifications on my
harps to make it more effective.
I also noticed that after I did my first overblow, the draw reed
became sticked.. I needed to draw very hard before it came into the
original condition. Without doing that, I wasn't able draw that hole..
somehow something is stucked. Is it normal? Or was it because I blow
to hard? My other question is, if wanna setup my harp for overblow on
a particular hole, is it possible if I just narrow the gap on the blow
reed?

Thanks alot..!!

Whops, I made a mistake, it's hole 6 (which is G to Bb).
