Can you get some more pictures up? I think it's older than you think it is. Going by what I see, are the plates zinc or nickel-plated steel? It could be you have one of the very first Marine Bands. If it says "patent applied for" on the front, whoop and holler, if it has a patent date or something else, whoop and holler, just not as loud as you would for "applied for." Just from what I can see, I'd date it somewhere between 1897 and 1910. Again, based on what I see, it looks like you have the ORIGINAL 1897 design Marine Band. IT has the small star sitting on the horizontal line, I believe the big star, what we think of when we think of a star on the back, was changed before World War I. 
It appears you have the granddaddy of all Marine Bands.
