If you wire two speakers together in parallel, it lowers the total
resistance, so, say two speakers of equal resistance, both being 8 ohms
(hypothetically), wired together, would become the equivalent of a single 4
ohm speaker in terms of resistance. This translates to more current flow
through these speakers, and therefore, more load on the final amplifier
section. This may or may not work, or could be damaging for the final
section of your amp, if it's not what it was designed for. If, for instance,
your amp presently has a 4 ohm speaker, then after wiring in the extra
speaker, the current has more path to flow in, and therefore the total
resistance would be less than four ohms. Some amps can't handly the lower
resistance. It causes too much current flow in the final.

I wouldn't know the details of the circuit, or the final tube's current
capacity. That's probably the "6VGT" (mostly likely a "6V6GT").

Personally, I've never heard of an amp that's happy with seeing less than 4
ohms at the speaker. Something may burn out, unless I'm wrong here. But
thanks to harp-l, and the internet, and teachers, and schools, and books,
and life, etc.,,there's always someone who knows more than I do.

Hello I have a small tube amp from the 50's the input is 40 watts and it sez
2 AMP. 3AG. The tubes are 6SJ7, 6VGT, 5YG3T and the other tube is enclosed
in a silver cylinder and does'nt say what it is. The speaker is 6 inches.

I have an 8 inch speaker that I want to wire into the 6 inch speaker. Will
the amp accept this kind of configuration or should I steer clear of this
idea? Any advice would be helpful...Thanks!
