Re: [Harp-L] cracked chromaic comb repair video

Thanks a lot for that vid, Dave. I like this method better than the others I found on harp-l and the net.

What is the basis of the sealing you apply? Here in Germany we have other brand names. I recently sealed a comb of an echo harp with a linseed oil derivate but it went banana. Fortunately enough the reedplates still fit and it isn't leaky at all, but the comb wood protrudes about half a millimeter at the middle of the back of the harp. Still playable, but I don't want this to happen to to the old lady.

I cleaned the mouthpiece and the covers today and removed the cobwebs inside the holes (I'm glad I resisted the urge to play it instantly...) and played it a little bit. All reeds seem to be OK, though some need a bit of regapping and fine tuning. The majority of the original leather windsavers work fine, but some need to be worked on.

I like the sound of this harmonica. It's nice, warm and mellow. Much more pleasant than the sound of my 270 which I got new in the late 80s. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship...

Grüße aus Deutschland,

Ralf (who fell in love with a lady maybe twice his age)

I had this video I hadn't gotten around to posting, so I uploaded it. Much easier than explaining in an e-mail.
