Re: [Harp-L] just intonation

That's a good point about the ear, Randy. Looking at plus two, three, plus 4, whatever, not many people are going be able to blow a harmonica steady enough to nail it down to the cent.

Here's what I like, 7 limit-
Draws(hole, then cent) 1 (+4); 2 (+2); 3 (-12); 4 (+4); 5 (-29)

What I like about this one specifically is the 2 and 5 draw tongue block seventh. The 2 is +2 of reference pitch, the 5 (the seventh) is -29. That 7th is the only place you can really do that, it's the only place on the harmonica your tongue block "octave" is two different notes, not the same one in different octaves.
On compromise tuning, that 2 draw is +1, the 5 draw is +3... hit them together, they sound gentle as a spring breeze. BUT, when I hit that 2-5 draw tongue block 7th, there's a 31-cent difference, and it adds tension to that 7th... I love that. I need that. I want that 7th to sound like you're getting a pool stick upside the head, not singing a suckling babe to sleep.

Subject: [Harp-L] just intonation

Hi Noel,
Assuming 19 limit JI,
1 Draw, +6
2 Draw, +3
3 Draw, -13
4 Draw, +6
But let your ears be your guide in the end.
Randy
