[Harp-L] Re: how do you set the kinder afb?

Robert-

First, I calibrate the mic as described in the instructions, drawing a HARD 2 draw, 3 draw, etc., and adjust the Calibration knob so that the blue light is barely blinking. With the strong elements in the mics I use, the Calibration knob is fully "off". Owners of the AFB+ who have strong CR elements, or use 545 mics, are finding the same setting to work. I use incredibly potent ThunderHarp mics from Steve Warner and similar mics from Dave Wren. Both utilize dynamic elements.

After I've calibrated, I bring the volume of the amp up to a reasonable level for the venue I'm at. Then I set the tone of the amp. I always start with the knobs on either side of the Calibration knob set at 9 o'clock. If feedback begins to occur as I increase volume, I turn clockwise either of the two knobs, depending on if the feedback is low frequency (left knob), or high frequency (right knob).

I've never had a reason to fiddle with the Calibration knob after I've made the initial calibration. I may have to adjust the other knobs. The cool thing is that I can play with the tone settings of my amp and not have to use them to combat feedback. I'm using the tone controls as they were meant to be used.

Have any questions, there's a good thread going on over at the Ted Weber board: www.tedweber.com. Click on "Forums", then "Harp".
