[Harp-L] Reed problem

Dave's right, Rick. If a reed sounds dull and doesn't ring when you  
plink it, it's usually getting tired. If it only makes a "pock'" or  
no sound at all instead of a note, or has dropped into the slot, it  
usually has a crack and if you try to lever it up like you can when  
offsetting an undamaged reed, it'll often break off at the crack.  
Metal fatigue.

Plinking is the standard way to assess the condition of a reed and  
completely reliable IMO. Steve Shaw's right with his remarks on  
alignment too, please try plinking before you mess with that. Hohner  
sells replacement reed plates for the Sp.20, they're listed at 17EUR  
per set in the current spare parts price list, which is a lot cheaper  
than a new one
