Re: [Harp-L] amps for newbie

Rick,

First, I mis-wrote, it's a HG30, not HG2 (oops!  Thanks for catching that!)

Second, lots of talk about amps seems to presume they'd sound similar with each player.  Don't you agree amps can sound very different with each player, each mic?  At least that's my experience.  Especially with harmonica, as each player is a different sound box. So try it before you buy it!

I sure don't mean to insult those (such as you, Rick) who generously provide the great critiques and info about the many amps out there, it's helpful, but proof is in the pudding.

And No, I don't recommend a wine just 'cause I like it, unless I know the others' taste, because "everyone's a different bucket of chemicals" and wine tastes different to each palate.    Even then my recommendation is a lot of bullpuckey until they open the bottle and like it!

ps: have a glass of 2000 Gigondas, you'll love it!  I'm certain!

David Fertig-

Two questions:

-Do you ever recommend a good wine to friends?  I'll bet you do, just as some recommend amps whose tone we like.  It ain't bullpuckey in either case.

-Since when does a HarpGear HG2 have 30 watts?  Did you modify it?

DGilroy, you'll get tons of smart guidance on Harp-L as to specific amps, esp. when you decide on style, etc., but it's all bullpuckey unless you sit

down and plug in and blow on the amp you're considering, with it's
particular wiring, tube-set, speaker, etc.

As in wine, words
and opinons are aplenty, but each sip speaks differently to each
palate, and each player sounds different on each amp.

So pull a cork/plug your mic, and take a taste!

Happy owner of a HG2 (30w), Bassman 59 RI (50w) ,  '63 Alamo Fiesta (4w) , etc. AND an AFB+!  And a wine cellar...
