I loop and I play harp (but mostly guitar).
If you are going to create loops live, having control of the decay of the
loop helps mitigate the "lobster trap" of too much unrelenting sound.
There is also the issue of ending a loop without too much letdown--decay
also helps with this.
The Boss RC-20 doesn't have real control of the decay, although the XL has a
fade out type feature.
I like the Gibson Echoplex, as it is very full featured.
Haven't used it much lately tho . . .
