[Harp-L] Re: Sorry harp

Nick,
I see what you are trying to say but do you see the irony in your posts.

Guys like you won't want to listen to guys like you because you are a white guy trying to play black when all you really should be doing is playing
from the heart. Your own. You are at the age where you still want to emulate others. As the years creep in you'll soon be discovering your own voice, your own style
and bring a little whatever you learned along the way into the mix. Then it will be your sound. not black or white, just you.

People will recognize your sound by just one or two notes. SBW, LW, Butterfield, Sonny Terry, Cotton, Clarke all have a sound that is easy to id with just one note or phrase.

I think what you are trying to say is you prefer to go to the root or first generation players (black players) to learn your style rather then those that came later (white players). That is good. Most of us that are blues players went that route. I think the more you move away from the root while developing your own style the farther you move from the style you want to play. It's happened in jazz and country. Younger players are listening less to the root players to get their foundation and more toward the 2nd 3rd and 4th generation for influence. Call it progression call it garbage.

Sorry,
<snip>.... Yall can keep overblowing hemmin and hawin, etc but sorry, I'm trying to sound black as soon as possible!

That's my apology! And if anyone wants to swap notes, talk to me off list, I'm not drunk enough tonight to take this seriously.
