Re: [Harp-L] Harp mics

Hi, Gary

The Ultimate 57 seems to be more popular among blues oriented players, but there are a number of players who prefer the Ultimate 58. It may be better for chromatic and the larger ball is easier for some to hold. Among better known players, Christelle Berthon and Kenny Neal are both Ultimate 58 users.

Here's how I compare the Ultimate mics:

Clean<-------------------------------------------------------------- >Dirty (cupped)
]----------------------------------[ Ultimate 58
]----------------------------------[ Ultimate 57
]---------------------------------- [ Ultimate 545
]--------------------------------------[ Typical bullet

Hello,

There has been a lot said about Greg's 57 by alot of different people. Why is there little to no conversation about the Ultimate 58??

What are the differences beside the element specs on the dynamics of the elements. Aside from "Butter" using the 545, I believed (perhaps in error) that the 58 was a better sounding mic. I realize different strokes for different folks...just curious. The only thing I did not like was the 545 I had got sliperry when wet.

The "chopped" 57 Jason plays through is indeed an Ultimate 57 from BlowsMeAway Productions. It isn't just shorter, its lighter too. I machine my own barrels from aluminum.

Same kind of Mic Jason was playing thru this weekend. 57 Cut down ...
chopped... with a VC built in. And a wireless rig that didn't perform 100%
flawlessly... Friday afternoon I saw him slam it and go to a cord.
