I feel obliged to point out that the Roland Cubes are not just solid state amps--they've got a full-blown amp modeler under the hood, with modeled effects too.  I'm not crazy about the way my Micro Cube sounds with harp, but I love what it does with a guitar.   

That said, one of my all-time favorite amps was a model called the Demon.  15 watts, 10" speaker, solid state, made a big, big noise with a vocal mic.  Sounded great with effects like flanging too.

You never know what's going to sound great until you hear the thing in action.
