Re: [Harp-L] Iceman -- Bending

 good suggestions.

another powerful approach is to begin to hear and understand INTERVALS. For instance, 2 hole inhale to 3 hole inhale first bend has a "distance" between these two notes. That distance is called a "minor third". The sound of that distance is the "Spoonful" sound.? "That spoon that spoon that spoonful". So, play 2 hole inhale, sing that note (as best you can) and use it as starting point for "That" - then sing "spoon" and make it sound like the song. Then play 2 hole inhale to 3 hole inhale first bend and recreate the notes.

If you have a bit of trouble with this, get together with a good teacher and work it out. Every interval can be attached to some melody or song that you already "know" to help you recreate it. This way you won't need an outside source to "give you" the notes you are trying to achieve through bending. You will get the notes from "within".

Get a piano, get a chromatic guitar tuner with a microphone. Play the
note on the piano. Listen. WHile holding the note, sing it. Then
stop playing the piano. SIng again into the tuner. It will tell you
if you are hitting the note correctly. Then repeat the process with
the harp instead of the voice.
