Re: [Harp-L] Sebastien Charlier Video in Concert

Hey Jerome,

Charlier's work is amazing! Thanx for this link, his playing is very effortless.

I like to think of the Bridge in DbMaj since the tune is in F....but yes, that's some tuff territory and he handles it beautifully...triplets and all!

I did note that he changed two notes in the melody (the first one coming out of the 1st ending should be a be a G not an F and on all the 5th bars of the A section he hits an E which Should be the Tonic D note...but it works just fine an hey it's Jazz,-) I'm such a knitpicker,-)))...I hope I can catch him Live sometime, a real pro with much music in his soul.

You will definatley get some TERRIFIC licks from this and by the way I enjoyed your playing on the 'Oriental Mix' by your Guitarist Gilles.....sweet playing my friend!

all the best,
Rob P

BTW, speaking about different tonalities (or/and positions), I've worked a
bit the solo played by Sebastien Charlier here
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBVNQHwz7Ms). It is in Dm and C#Maj.
Sebastien plays on a C harmonica, lydian tuning.

His ease on the C#Maj parts is really impressive I think. For example, the
phrases from 1:10 to 1:40 are in C#Maj, as well as the ones from 2:10 to
2:40, and many others.

It surely represents an incredible amount of work, but at least it shows it
is feasible (I've already stolen one or two very interesting licks :-) ...).

Best regards,

Jerome

Hi all !

I've been to a Sebastien Charlier concert last week.

It was absolutely amazing! The band was really outstanding, including D. Di
Piazza (who played with John Mc Laughlin, Bireli Lagrene and so many other
great musicians), and really nice to meet.

S. Charlier kindly accepted that I put few vids I made on youtube.

So here is a first one, the standard "In A Sentimental Mood" in duet with Di
Piazza:

In fact, it is the only slow tune the band played. I'll put other vids of
the concert in the next few days.

By the way, I've also put online a personal improvisation on an oriental mix
done by my guitarist, Gilles Zanella.

If you get a chance to listen to it and tell me what you think, I'd be very
much interested by your feedback as we usually don't play that kind of
music:

Hoping you'll have time to see the vids,

Best regards,
