Because you might like the different sound of the variable fiel voic 
coil vs an attenuator.  Of course you might be fine with the attenuator 
too.  Process is product.  Change the process get a different product. 
For some people the differences can be subtle and not worth pursuing. 
For others the differences can be starkly night and day.  Factor into 
that the aesthetic and the results can seem to be world's apart.  fjm
