[Harp-L] Re: Harmonica Repair Manuals.

Hello, John Waldan.

Here's a list of a few excellent harmonica maintenance & repair manuals.
They are listed in no particular order.

"Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Chromatic Harmonica," by Alan
"Blackie" Schackner, Warner Bros. publication. It's a tecniques book, but
also has 18 pages of reapair, maintenance tips and mics and amps discussion.

"Make Your Harmonica Play Well," by Douglas Tate, publisher unknown,
possibly Hal Leonard-Centerstream publication. An excellent repair and
maintenance manual. Mostly designed for slide chromatics, but may also be useful for
diatonics. My first edition, published by Tate, has 52 pages, but it might
be more pages from Hal Leonard.

"Blackie Schackner's Complete Book of Chromatic & Diatonic State of the
Art Repairs," by Blackie Schackner, published by H.& R. Farrell company, a
harmonica mail-order company that went out of business about 7-8 years ago.
You may be able to find it in a national bookstore chain, under "out of print
books," or at your local public library. I has 32 pages of information.

"The Art of Harmonica Maintenance," by Lee Oskar, published by Lee Oskar
Enterprises.
The 16-page manual is small, but very useful. It's usually sold with the
Lee Oskar Tool Kit, but you can order it separately from Lee Oskar Ent. or
your local Lee Oscar retailer, or at an on-line harmonica company. It's
designed for diatonic harmonicas, but some of the techniques can be applied to
the slide chromatics.

"The Harp Handbook," by Steve Baker, published by Edition louis Hermann
Demmler,(Ludwigsburg, Germany). This is a great technical manual and repairs
and customizing book. The publisher may have changed since this first
edition. It's worth finding. Diatonic harps only, 104 pages.

Best Regards

John Broecker
