My case in point: At church, they do not let me use an amp which is fine because I am going for a clean sound. Here's what I do. The church has an old Line6 POD (kidney bean) that was originally bought for the electric guitar player (they took his amp away too). He left our church (for unrelated reasons) and I asked if I could take the POD home and noodle around with it. I had to program a clean patch just for my harp sound and I plug a JT30 with a Switchcraft VC into the POD (same mic/VC I use for blues through an amp). Holding the mic with an open grip ie little or no cupping and using the VC, I DI from the POD into the PA and play padding with the VC at 75%. Then when I do fills or solo, I turn up the VC to 100%. This gives me almost total control over my tone and volume thus the sound engineer loves it because he does not have to worry about "chasing" me (he has piano, the choir, lead singer(s), a 6 piece band which includes me and a 7 to 10 piece orchestra to deal with).
