Re: [Harp-L] Re: harp vs. guitar

There are chords on harmonicas as well.

I know my way around a guitar but I'm Gumby when it comes to making music with it. OTOH, I have great visualization which helps tremendously when playing harmonica. I forget which famous harmonica player said "the harmonica is the blind man's instrument" implying you can't see what you're doing.

I have a friend who's never had a day job because he makes a good living playing music professionally. He plays several string instruments very well especially guitar and mandolin. He also plays keys and accordion well. He's been playing harmonica for more than a decade and I've given him dozens of lessons and tips but he still sounds like a rookie. He understands the tuning, music theory and bending techniques but can't bring it all together with the harmonica.

The question is kind of like what's harder, to be a great writer or a great mathematician?

I was told by a guitar player who went to Berklee, got a scholarship

than guitar. The techniques are harder, the resources are fewer, and
the amount of people able to play proficiently with other musicians is
very little.

He wasn't referring to getting to his level of guitar playing
either.

Overall, which would you say is harder to learn, the harmonica or the
