I use cheese head screws (A2 steel) for the very reason the counter
sinking thins the metal of the plate under the reed pad and does
nothing for improving clamping of the reed to the plate. While using a
cheese head screw you almost don't need a nut of any sort (though I do
still tend to us them as they help with other actions). I agree with
Vern on the mylar cigarette paper (I use the paper as have not found
the mylar that thin).
