A lot of us jumped on m-audio when the microtrack came out, and ended up disappointed over quality issues (i.e. battery life horrendous, included mics not sufficient for music, etc). they have a microtrack II out now but I personally wouldn't trust them again. i'd get a zoom, folks seem to be happy with those. these are very small, high fidelity (cd quality anyway), plug into the computer with usb to download the files and edit with audacity or something else, etc. i really think that's your best solution, something along those lines.
