not to mention that you probably don't want to schlep your computer to the jam all the time, or worry about it getting damaged.

you can get a zoom h2 and a large memory card for under $200.
there's an h1 now that's around $100.  sitck it on a mic stand,
hit "record" and you're good for the night.  later, plug the memory
card into your computer and use audacity to split and edit the
files.  piece of cake.
