[Harp-L] Re: Harp-L compliations

Maybe it is just me, but I do not find youtube a good way of listening to music. This is because I have yet to figure out a way of watching youtube in the car ;), it chains one to the computer and also because the visuals often detract from the music rather than enhancing them, particularly the home recordings. I would rather have access to mp3 files that I can listen to where ever I like. Some of the harp-l artistes generously allow one to download their work already.

Another option is to use last FM, which allows 'artists' to upload as much music as they like (unlike Myspace), as long as there are no copyright issues. It also allows 'labels' to upload 'cds' by different bands, which could be samplers of different types, or entire cds by single acts. Of course someone would have to volunteer to serve as the 'label'. Last FM also pay artists per play, although a minute amount. Finally, if you want you can let people download your tracks for free.

Perhaps Facebook has a similar facility? I don't know enough about it but I am sure someone on this list does.

Joe Filisko approached the harmonica from the perspective of a machinist and guitar player, and Joe Spiers comes from the world of a mechanic that understands the internal combustion engine. Both of these guys have a unique understanding of compression that they applied to the harmonica. We are all much better off for their efforts!
