Make it eeeeaaaasy on yourself...Save yourself a bunch  of unnecessary  
drilling, fitting, wiring, hassling.....Get in touch  with Greg Heumann, 
buy one  
(or more) of his solid excellent volume  controls.

Simple, efficient, and get back to playing right  away!

Jeff, I also like Gregg's inline volume controls.  It's a  product I don't 
produce, so even though he's a competitor I send people to  him when they 
need something like that.
 
Problem in this case is that all of the microphones that George  mentioned 
have fixed cables, you can't just attach an inline control to any  of them.  
I have the capability to modify as needed, Greg & few other  can also do a 
good job.  Shop carefully, a LOT of the mic 'builders'  out there lack both 
the tooling and the tech savvy to do the  job properly.
