RE: [Harp-L] Re: Stomp box recommendations

Gary-
Off topic? I respectfully disagree. I am talking about a harp amp. (had to say that for the harp-l admin) :)

I deleted the original post and am not sure who is the original poster. Hope this helps.

I was told by several who are harp amp builders to use #2 pine. However on a low watt amp like a champ (or a stomp box) that #2 pine would not help the tone much. Other recommendations were a any good grade of plywood and basically anything except particle board or pressed particle board. Laminated woods are good. Just avoid anything 'particle' that would have a sponge effect.

To the original poster:

If you go to Weber Speakers web site --> Ted's Forums, there is a ton of info and you have search capability for keyword(s) like 'cab' and 'wood' etc. Most of the folks that are on that forum are professional and are usually happy to answer questions. There is a forum for harp as well as effects as well as cabinets and many others. Tons of info on kit building for effects and other harp gear.

See my topic in "Harp" titled "Cab For SF Champ" but by all means if you start a topic, I would reccomend posting it under "Effects". There will be lots of folks that will be familiar with what you have in mind.

Good luck
Buck (boogalloo on Ted's Forums)

Yes....this is off topic Harmonica, however. Besides Birch, what other woods would be a good wood to use?? This is a question for wood workers!!

On the particle board, I would not use it. If it comes into contact with water, it will fall apart. Happened to a '70s champ of mine. The water only contacted the bottom board but the whole cab was ruined. Soaked it up like a sponge. Now I am building a new cab from #2 pine like Leo used on the old ones.
