Hi Vern,

Upon recommendation of a fine harp player-friend, I too, opened the back of
the cover plates on a couple of Lee Oskars.

Conclusion:
I didn't hear any difference that was valuable to me, or worth the time to
change them. Covers also crush and collapse more easily under any pressure.
The original design serves me well.
